Yuanfan Yang Delights Audience in Kotor as Montenegro International Piano Festival Approaches Grand Finale with Andrey Gugnin

As part of the programme of the Montenegro International Piano Festival 2026, an acclaimed recital by Chinese-British pianist Yuanfan Yang, laureate of the prestigious Ricard Viñes International Piano Competition and one of the most compelling young artists of his generation, was held last night at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Kotor.

The audience enjoyed a unique concert programme that brought together works by Mozart, Debussy, Rachmaninoff, and Bartók with the art of improvisation. A particularly memorable aspect of the evening was Yang’s improvisations inspired by themes and musical styles suggested by audience members, creating a dynamic dialogue between performer and listeners while showcasing the pianist’s extraordinary creativity and musical imagination.

The virtuosity, spontaneity, and artistic freedom that characterize Yang’s musicianship left a strong impression on the audience, who rewarded his performance with prolonged applause. The concert was presented in collaboration with the Ricard Viñes International Piano Competition, the Vida Matjan School of Music, and the Municipality of Kotor.

Following a successful international competition, masterclasses, and performances by distinguished artists, the Montenegro International Piano Festival is now approaching its grand finale.

On June 21, audiences will have the opportunity to attend the Festival’s closing gala concert and a recital by Andrey Gugnin, one of the most distinguished pianists of his generation. Renowned for his extraordinary virtuosity, powerful artistic individuality, and interpretations that combine technical brilliance with profound musicality, Gugnin performs regularly at some of the world’s most prestigious concert halls and festivals. His recital will serve as the crowning event of this year’s festival programme.

The concert will take place at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Kotor on June 21 at 9:00 PM. The event is organized in celebration of World Music Day in collaboration with the Nikola Đurković Cultural Centre Kotor and the Vida Matjan School of Music.

Andrey Gugnin’s gala recital will mark the conclusion of the seven-day Montenegro International Piano Festival 2026, which this year brought together 49 young pianists from 20 countries, distinguished professors, an international jury, and numerous classical music enthusiasts, once again confirming the festival’s significance on the international cultural scene.
